As Magdi found himself at the end of his rope, he wept in his bed. He was an innocent man being falsely accused of murdering his troubled cousin. The city buzzed with life outside his window like it does every Thursday night but he felt terribly alone. All of the Hindu gods he had prayed to had left him hopeless and in the dark.
In his desperation, he decided to try a “new god” named Jesus that he had only heard whispers of. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he prayed to Jesus and fell asleep. Instead of a restless night full of nightmares, he had a different dream. He dreamed of Jesus. In his dream, Jesus placed his hand on Magdi’s head and said, “Don’t worry my son, only wait until Saturday.”
He awoke on Saturday as the sun rose over the city like it does every morning. But Magdi was nervous. The charges being made against him were serious. What had actually happened to his cousin? There wasn’t a body to prove he was even dead. What would happen to him if they decided he was guilty? Who would take care of his mother if he were taken away for this alleged murder? The police would surely come back for him next week.
Suddenly, there was a knock at his door. He opened it to find two women standing there with a book. He invited them into his apartment and made tea. They gave him the book. It was a Bible. Magdi asked them why they had come and the women explained that they had a dream that same Thursday night. Jesus had also appeared to them and told them to bring a Bible to his house. Magdi was very excited to receive a book about Jesus.
Two days later, his cousin was found by police and the charges against Magdi were dropped. But Magdi was changed. He had this mysterious book that he could not understand. The Holy Spirit had awakened in Magdi a desire to learn more. He read the Bible off and on for nine years. But he didn’t have anyone who could explain the Bible to him in a way he could understand.
Nine years later, a Cafe 1040 student met Magdi and heard his incredible story. Now a Cafe 1040 staff person is walking alongside Magdi to help him learn about Jesus. His story is but one example of what it means to be unreached. He is just ONE of the 2.9 billion people that lives with this reality. Though Magdi had access to a Bible, he had no one who was willing to truly share the gospel with him —until now.
You can change this reality by joining this movement to raise and empower a generation to go and share the story of Jesus among the unreached. Please donate today and help us create a world where there are disciples of Jesus among every people group. In addition, we urge you to join us in prayer for Magdi as he seeks a relationship with Jesus.
