The 74,460 Initiative
In October 2025, the director team at Cafe 1040 got together to discuss the ideas presented in Extreme Prayer by Greg Pruett. In this book, the author makes a biblical argument for the types of prayers that Jesus promises to answer. Specifically, prayers offered in His name, for the advancement of His kingdom to the ends of the earth. He also made a compelling argument for praying unified, corporate, “God-sized prayers.” These mountain-moving prayers are so grand and seemingly impossible, no human could ever take credit for them. At that same time, our team became aware that according to the Joshua Project, there are 74,460 new missionaries needed to reach the unreached. That became our God-sized prayer.
When Jesus told His disciples that “the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few,” He did not tell them to go to the harvest. He did not tell them to recruit missionaries to go to the harvest. He said, “Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Luke 10:2) The harvest field is His. Our job is prayer. Intentional, fervent, Spirit-led, unified prayer that God would send more missionaries to the harvest field. This is mobilization. Mobilization is first and foremost a movement of prayer.
There is not a single church, sending agency, seminary, or even country that can send 74,460 missionaries on their own. The body of Christ must unite in corporate prayer. Prayer is the strategy.
This is what birthed the 74,460 Initiative. Join us in praying expectantly to the God of the harvest to send more missionaries. Join the movement.
