In the Slowness

Written by a Cafe 1040 Student

It has been really great having the ability to step out of a frantic season to just sit in stillness with God. We have had space and time to abide in the Father and learn more about Him, which has been wonderful. Through this time, God has been taking me deeper in revealing more about what it looks like to truly rest in His presence, which is something He planted seeds for right before I left. The Father has been sweetly reminding me of John 15 in this season that talks so much about the importance of abiding and knowing the Father deeper. The following words have been given whole new meaning during my time here so far:

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” (John 15:4)

How beautiful is it that our fruitfulness is dependent on our relationship with God? Above performance, work, or anything that we could strive for on our own, the Father really desires relationship with us. This text has been a great reminder to me in this season to slow down and prioritize my relationship with the Father, and that only then can we see fruit in the work that He invites us into. Slowing down has also helped me to simply hear his voice in different ways. The sheep know the Shepherd's voice because of the time that they spend with him; so I have been able to lean in to the fact that He is speaking all the time - we just need to slow down and listen long enough to hear his voice.
