What is Unreached?

An unreached people group doesn't have any indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to reach their own people. These are the people that have no churches, no Bibles in their language, no access to Christian radio, television, or books. Multiple people groups may co-exist within a political nation but because of language, land or social barriers never have any contact with one another. There are just under 7000 unreached people groups left in the world today – about 2.68 billion people.

Here are a few links where you can find out more the unreached, what a "people group" is and the Joshua Project.

What is 10/40 window?

In the past 2000 years, only roughly 1/3 of the world's 6.5 billion people have been reached with the gospel (Click on What is Unreached). Of those who are left, most live in a part of the world spanning from West Africa to East Asia, 10° to 40° North latitude. Lines are drawn to form a box or window around this area. Over 4.1 billion people and 62 nations live within the 10/40 Window. There are 1.2 billion people under the influence of communism, 1.3 billion Muslims, nearly 1 billion Hindus, 350 million Buddhists, and 250 million Tribal Religionists. 80% of the world's poorest people also live here. Yet there is a greater tragedy. Only 8% of the world's missionaries are sent to countries within the window and less than one penny out of every dollar we give goes to work within the Window.

What is Café 1040?

Café 1040 was established in May 2001 as a non-profit organization committed to preparing North American college students and twenty-somethings for evangelism in the parts of the world that are least evangelized (see What is the 10/40 Window). We believe that this generation has the ability to complete the Great Commission! As a result, we have created a program and process for these young people to be able to see what God can do with their talents and abilities on the field. Much of the experience happens in a hands-on context for three months in a closed country inside the 10/40 Window (see Deployment Dates). We also invest in each person who goes through our program through mentoring both before and after his or her time overseas. We also work to make sure that young people who are ready to go and serve among the unreached have the connections and contacts that they need to be placed in areas where they can use their skills, talents and abilities on the field!

As a larger part of our ministry, Café 1040 is also dedicated to helping churches and campuses with resources related to missions. Whether through education, mentoring, explore trips (see Get Involved) we want to be a resource for the Church as a whole in completing the task that Christ set out for us!

Who are we looking for?

Are you thinking long-term missions might be for you, but just aren't sure? Have you wondered if you could be the one to take the Gospel to someone who has never heard it? Maybe you have wondered more specifically - how will I get the money? Will my parents be okay with me going to that part of the world? I have only been on short-term trips to South America, will it be safe - or many other questions. If this is you, then Café 1040 is for you!

We want young people (18-28) who are actively growing Christians, who are leaders among their friends, and who are seeking to know some hands-on answers to what life overseas might look like. You will need to be adventurous, open to learning, flexible, and ready to be challenged spiritually, mentally, and physically! If you are up to the challenge, click Apply now!

  • You must have at least (15) prayer supporters

Our investment in you

You are about to embark on one of the most challenging adventures of your life.

Before you begin the adventure, please read the following:

Café 1040 exists so students can get a taste of the mission field early without having to make a long-term commitment. Therefore, we do not expect you to know at this time if you are called to be a missionary in the 10/40 Window. However, out of respect to those who will be spending time and resources reviewing your application, we do expect you to seriously consider the challenge that comes with learning a different culture in a foreign land for three months. This should be done before you apply.

Should you be accepted, the training you will receive will be more "Boot Camp" and less "Summer Vacation", enabling you to become competent and compassionate soldiers for the Gospel in any environment. As you seek to determine whether the Café 1040 experience is right for you, be sure to seek guidance from those who know you best, and pray for God's direction when making your decision.
